"Above all, sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself, or any other creature. In order to do this attend strictly to the sense of what you sing, and see that your heart is not carried away with the sound, but offered to God continually; so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approve here, and reward you when he cometh in the clouds of heaven."  John Wesley

We are blessed at Clayton 1st UMC to have such talented and hard-working members who give their time and talents to serve their church. All of our musicians take seriously our charge to be leaders in worship, and they continuously strive to give the members of our church a meaningful experience when they join us on Sunday morning.

Sanctuary Choir

Our sanctuary choir sings at the 11:00 traditional service. Don't let this fool you though--the choir performs music from a wide variety of styles. From southern gospel to contemporary hits to quiet hymns of reflection, we love to sing a lot of different kinds of music.

If you are interested in singing with us, we would love to have you join us!

Rehearsals are Monday nights at 5:30 pm in the lower level of the fellowship hall (next to the sanctuary), and we meet at 10:30 am on Sunday mornings in the choir loft to warm up.

Auditions are not necessary, and neither is experience with reading music. All you need to be a part of the choir is a drive to work hard, an openness to fellowship, and a willingness to make a joyful noise!

We also welcome guest singers to join our choir for special services, such as our Christmas Cantata.

For information on the choir, you can contact our Director of Music Ministry, George James.
